In 1975, The Museum of the Plains was founded on the third floor of the Ochiltree County Courthouse. 1978, the Museum was given property at our current location, and the 1899 Depot was moved there. Construction began in 1980 on the main building and on August 28th, 1981, a formal grand opening was held. Since then, over 10,000 artifacts have been donated and many more additions have been made. The museum currently has over 29,850 sq. feet of exhibit space, contains 5 historic buildings, and resides on over 4 acres.
